Day 24: 11 February 2015 (Wednesday)

I woke up and did two loads of laundry today (costing a total of £6.50, or $10!) and then headed for uni around 10:30 for class at 11. After my first lecture, I grabbed an egg salad sandwich and did some reading for my second class in the student lounge. On the way home, I stopped at Sainsbury’s to pick up chicken for kebabs, then headed over to Kourtni’s for a bit just to hang out before going over to D1.1. Jack and Ben again made dinner for a bunch of people; this time it was chicken Parmesan kebabs. They really should start a restaurant or something, because every meal I’ve had there has been delicious.

After dinner, Haley, Kourtni, Jonny, and I all headed back to mine to watch a film. Kourtni’s mom sent her a care package in the mail, and she shared some of her peanut M&Ms and homemade cookies with us, which was amazing. Jonny had never had cookies with milk before (same kid who’d never had mac ‘n’ cheese) so we basically changed his life. It was also funny because he said he was gonna bring “sweets” over with him, and when he got there, it turned out to be chocolate-covered raisins. So quite obviously, the U.S. does candy a bit differently than the U.K. As far as chocolate goes, Cadbury’s is the huge brand here–basically the equivalent of Hershey’s, which is not available in the U.K. except in specialty shops at very high prices.

Also, Mom, if you’re reading this, I wouldn’t mind receiving a care package containing a few of the following things:

  • Light blue Stride gum
  • A bottle of peanut sauce
  • Sheet music to Hallelujah, River Flows in You, Rose and Butterflies, Moonlight Sonata, Send in the Clowns, and any other sheet music you’d care to send
  • Crescent rolls
  • My Red Lodge sweatshirt
  • Victoria’s Secret Tease perfume (it’s on my desk… pink bottle)
  • 2 workout headbands
  • Q-Tips
  • and any sort of treat(s) you care to make 🙂

So, between the four of us we ate an entire bag of peanut M&Ms, cookies and milk, and half a bag of chocolate-covered raisins and watched 27 Dresses. It was a relatively uneventful day, but just having a network of people with whom I can hangout and have meals and watch movies has been one of the best parts of Leeds, and more specifically Lupton, so far.
