Day 83: 11 April 2015 (Saturday) – Prague Pt. IV

Immediately after waking up, Jonny and I packed up all of our stuff and checked out of the hostel. Since our flight does not leave until late tonight, we left our luggage at the hostel in a locker and left for our final visit to the city center to find lunch. Before we located a restaurant, we sat for a bit in the nice weather and people-watched. The square was still bustling with the Easter markets, so it made for an interesting time. We also saw a Welsh children’s choir perform on the stage set up in the middle of the hubbub.

For lunch, we left the main touristy area to eat outside at a small cafe tucked away in a sunny courtyard. The food was as delicious as always, and we ordered dessert for our last full meal here.

We have done most of the major sightseeing activities here, except for walking up a large hill to Petrin tower, a structure vaguely resembling the Eiffel Tower that supposedly has (like everywhere) great views of the city. Along the route, we stopped and purchased a few souvenirs in various shops. I finally found some good things for Jess, so I was happy about that.

Because of the relatively hot weather, the climb up to the tower was a pretty sweaty hike, but as promised, the views were worth it.

At the top, near Petrin Tower, we found yet another park and decided to lay out in the sun for a few hours to kill some time.

I took a nap for an hour in the sun and then we began the trek back down, again getting spectacular views of Prague. At the bottom of the hill, we crossed over the river, stopping on an island in the middle to lounge around a bit more to kill time.

Eventually, clouds overtook the sun, so we decided to start moving and walked to the main square in which we’d arrived the first day. We grabbed a quick dinner of hamburgers and fries and watched a street performer for awhile before going back to the hostel to chill before departing for the airport.

The hostel had a piano in the lounge area, so we took turns playing and I had a final cup of tea. Around 7:30, we took our bags out of the hold and headed to the metro. This time, we decided not to risk getting on without tickets and bought ours from a kiosk in the station. From there on, all travel went quite smoothly.

We caught the correct bus that took us to the main terminal, using our transportation tickets from the metro station. We had to go through passport check once we arrived, and they waved me through without giving my boarding pass a stamp, saying it wouldn’t be necessary. I found it odd that the woman in London made such a deal out of it, but the people here are so relaxed… that’s RyanAir I suppose.

The terminal was an absolute ghost town, as the only flights leaving were RyanAir in our branch of the terminal, and we were insanely early for our flight. With our spare time, we bought some snacks and then sat around charging our phones and reading until our gate number appeared. This airport had a similar system to Amsterdam, so we went through security before getting to our gate instead of immediately after getting into the airport. It went quickly with so few people around, and before we knew it we were boarded and headed back to London Stansted.

We arrived only a bit behind schedule, but I then had to go through customs. Jonny has an EU passport, so his time in line took about a fifth the time of mine, and it was nearly 40 minutes before I finally reached the front, was questioned on why I was entering the UK, and finished. I still get nervous every time that they will ask a question I have no answer for and they won’t let me in, but of course they didn’t and it went fine. His dad was there to pick us up, so we chatted about everything we did in Prague on the ride home. Once back to Jonny’s house, I immediately crawled into bed and passed out.
